An inquiry into consciousness told with a modest, self-effacing voice. I’m no neuro scientist nor philosopher, so I enjoyed the novice setting the material was dialed to meet. I could see where a specialist may find Pollan’s arguments and investigations too elementary or surface level. I made a lot of highlights and will need to review them for the information to sink in. I may have enjoyed the portion of plants and plant consciousness more than the human-centered material. I also appreciated his pushback when he struggled with certain experts’ POVs. Overall, timely material given the rise of AI and what questions that may create. Not a world-changing book for me, but really solid.
