The BBA

1929

Deeply researched and expertly presented take on the characters that influenced the 1929 stock market crash and resulting depression, including the aftermath faced by these characters. The takeaway for me was that people are going to be people and while these events occurred nearly 100 years ago, human nature hasn’t really changed. Also was surprised and how flawed and arguably incompetent the presidents were in this era – at least that’s how they were portrayed (Coolidge, Hoover and to an extent Roosevelt). I guess that hasn’t changed either. A worthy read in a journalistic style. Not breezy, but not a slog either. Many characters to keep track of with an index of the people provided at the beginning of the book.
