Stories of Your Life and Others
Ted Chiang, 281 pages
Similar to Exhalation, I enjoyed Chiang’s thought-provoking concepts while finding the short story format a bit unsatisfying. My overall impression of this group was elevated by the last story, Liking What You See: A Documentary. It was a masterclass on how to compellingly express multiple points of view about one issue. Very difficult to pull off like Chiang did, and it felt refreshing in comparison to most of the other stories that used a strong, singular voice to advance each plot in a tight manner. Overall, a rigorous tour of stimulating ideas, grounded in science, but told by someone equally versed in emotional intelligence.
