Outstanding fiction consumed in two days. Narration from a dog’s POV isn’t a new technique, but Yoon avoids the cutesy trap that similar novels fall into. Crisp writing that evoked emotion and drama, but always with a sense of hope — what Theo of Golden gets outsized credit for, but I argue this novel does much better. A mixed breed German Shepherd as the protagonist, a military context, and the overall regard given to animals throughout the novel contributed to my positive bias for this book. A great story with a thoughtful end that I didn’t want to reach. An instant fav for me.
