This sci-fi/horror novel is likely to appeal to a small audience, but I guess I’m that audience. I appreciated the author’s creativity and ability to keep a very abstract concept interesting and moving forward. I was neutral on the grotesqueness of some scenes as horror doesn’t interest me, but it didn’t distract either. Never an X-Files fan, but I imagine the book could be summarized as an intellectual X-Files on steroids. I believe the author realized this as he seemingly in jest had the main characters express disdain for the show. There was certainly a “what the hell did I just read” element to the book as bizarre “monster-like” antimemes (eradicating people’s memories and consuming ideas instead of spreading them) turned reality fluid and the characters’ world into a living nightmare.
