When We Cease to Understand the World
Benjamín Labatut, 192 pages
A blend of fiction with nonfiction concerning scientists (Einstein, Schrödinger and so forth) mostly in the early 20th century attempting to push the limits of knowledge in physics, chemistry, mathematics and other corners of science. They struggle with their obsession to solve, they struggle with the potential evil their discoveries can lead to (Zyklon B), they struggle with their own personal addictions. Not having intimate knowledge of these scientists, I couldn’t be for sure what was fiction vs. fact. Also really didn’t understand where the novel was headed—and never did. It was disappointing and a little slow. Just didn’t connect with it as I had hoped.
