The BBA

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow

Gabrielle Zevin, 401 pages

Mixed feelings on this one. Zevin’s writing kept my attention. My mind did not wander and the pages kept turning, but aspects of it I found pretentious. I just don’t think I was the target audience for this. I’m 25 years too old for this novel which was about college friends cutting their teeth as video game makers and generally finding their places in the world. The characters’ behaviors and relationships did not feel genuine, but manufactured, in order to create drama that fell flat. The gender fluidity and sexual identity stuff felt really forced and mostly unnecessary, as if this is what the world demands from such a young author. The ending isn’t a Hollywood one, yet provides enough closure to avoid irritation.
