Anxious People

Fredrik Backman, 336 pages

Good, but had potential to be great. Mostly well-paced, then started to drag tediously about ⅔ the way through. One more edit for tightening would have helped. An attempt at mixing humor and drama, but ultimately came off disconnected with the quirky humor overdone and forced. While one could overlook the lack of logic for a time being seeing that Backman was going for goofy, it became too much and the plot quickly turned absurd. An enjoyable beach read if you want people behaving as they would in a sitcom and not in real life. (Yet we’re asked to understand the emotional underpinnings of the characters as if they are experiencing a realistic world). Hollywood ending didn’t help.
