Wintering

, pages

The author’s personal account of recognizing the cyclic nature of life using Winter as a metaphor for low/challenging times in life. She spends time both on describing the actual seasons of nature and then drawing parallels to her life experiences. Shades of a memoir, self-help, philosophy and biology are woven together uniquely and fairly successfully, although the final third of the book felt a bit forced and tangent-y as she riffed on winter-adjacent topics like birds and losing her voice. Also, her husband felt like a prop and was largely absent from her ruminations despite her attention being so family-centric. A worthwhile read, particularly in winter, for its calming and darker qualities.
