Strategy is Your Words

Mark Pollard, 379 pages

Valuable writing from a smart creative strategist. The first third or so of the book is written in a “creative” poetic way with heavy use of metaphors and wordplay. I’d say it is geared to the up and coming strategist, but it was still relevant for me. Mark’s prose could definitely be construed as showing off (I mean the title is Strategy is Your Words), but it also softens his cynicism and criticism of ad agency processes and culture. And he has plenty to say about that. The book then evolves into a more tactical guide and did provide me more validation on my perspectives about what’s important when it comes to strategy. Ranks near my other favorite strategy books, but I ding it for the first third that I found myself wanting to fast forward through.
