In 2005, a Bachmann Family Tradition™ began in celebration for one of our favorite holidays – Halloween. Each glorious October we head out to the “country” (San Diego’s version of it anyway, which is actually a lot closer to stereotypical “country” than you might think) to secure pumpkins we could have otherwise purchased at a local grocery store a mile from our house.
Our journey takes us to Ramona, CA towards Julian, a small mountain town famous for apple pie. Our destination is Mountain Valley Ranch – part-time pumpkin patch, part-time Christmas tree lot (Bachmas™!). It is here that Matt perseverates over picking the right pumpkins for carving. It is here that Angela picks out her pumpkin in about 10 seconds. It is here that the dogs are confused and excited just to be out of the car.
After pumpkin selection, photo opps and watching kids shoot off the corn cannons, we sometimes head down the road a few more miles and stop for Julian pie (that isn’t quite in Julian). It is tasty and Sasha(/Roman) are always a big attraction with all the families making a similar stop.
Enjoy our scattered photo collection of Bachmann pumpkin carving creativity throughout the years.
