Mockingjay
Suzanne Collins, 390 pages
Disappointing conclusion to the trilogy. Felt as though the author was making up the storyline along the way and plot felt untethered. Endings to both the war and love story were anti-climatic, particularly how the love story was resolved (or was blown off). Storyline had serious shades of Star Wars: the capitol (evil empire), district 13 (the rebels), Katniss as tough heroine (Leia) holding the interest of Gale and Peeta (luke and han) with Peeta (Han) captured and rescued, the Holo three-dimensional mapping of the Capitol (Death Star) obtained by the rebels, I could go on. In sum, the trilogy was a fair read and I can see how it gained popularity. It wasn’t written for an adult audience and I realize certain decisions by the author were made for this reason. Not sure what message it really sends to younger readers or if there is a message there at all.
