Men and Dogs

Katie Crouch, 277 pages

If you translated a made-for-TV Hallmark Hall of Fame movie into a book, this could be it. The plot was a little slow. The characters were all cliché (and the protagonist an annoying beating). The end lacked the resolution I was hoping to get. Terrible book, right? Actually I found it very easy to read and that I found myself wanting to read it – so I got through it quite quickly. I can’t identify what I connected with given the negatives I’ve already stated, but something worked for me. I’m not in a hurry to recommend it to others, nor would I read the author’s more “successful” book. I may be judging this book easier because of context – I really have not read many good books this year (compared to last year). Hoping to change that soon.
