The Future

Naomi Alderman, 415 pages

Cool premise, above average execution. Wanted to love this more. Definitely a commentary on modern life and technology’s stranglehold on it — but I’m not sure I picked up on what the commentary was. What I chose to take away was the future can’t be controlled, but it can be influenced. And that lack of control isn’t a reason to give up; we should continue to pursue good, it just won’t ever fully be reached and to keep from going backwards the present will always require a certain level of grind. Accept the grind and acknowledge the positives of the present that were created by previous effort. Or something like that. Onward.
