The Crux
Richard P. Rumelt, 331 pages
Similar to Good Strategy Bad Strategy, this book presents some really interesting and useful concepts in defining and creating business strategies. Rumelt isn’t bashful when it comes to sharing his personal anecdotes and case studies. While not fluff, cumulatively they don’t add that much to the actual strategy teachings/process he advocates for. So it was a bit of a slog to get through, but I walked away with some very pertinent notes for work. If I had nothing better to do, I could combine these two books into a “practical guide” for strategists, cutting 75% of the page count. Given the bloated manner of conveying really great concepts, this book was hard to pin down in terms of ranking.
