The BBA

Fooled By Randomness

Nassim Nicholas Taleb, 265 pages

We fail to see randomness, assigning causality incorrectly to outcomes in life. That’s the premise of the book, told by an egotistical, journalist-bashing day trader that repeatedly says “I’m not better than other people, I just recognize my limitations.” Translation: I am better than others, and I’m going to pad out this blog post so I can sell a book. I’m being harsh, but I found this book tedious and only got through it quickly because of some lengthy air travel. It appears that Taleb’s other books deal with similar subject matter, so by reading this one I’ve saved myself from reading the others, I suppose. Smart guy, but maybe too smart to be likable or interesting as an author.
