Portnoy’s Complaint

, pages

A start-to-finish, stream of consciousness rant by a man speaking to his therapist, mostly about masturbation, his sexual exploits and how he feels wronged by his family and the world at large. I imagine the content had shock value when this was published in the 1960s. In today’s world, it doesn’t carry the same weight, so this book was mostly just annoying to read. I’m sure psychology classes might benefit from a close examination of Portnoy and his worldview, but I didn’t find anything about his ramblings to be worthy of a deeper dive.
