Bewilderment

An astrobiologist and his 9-year-old son on the spectrum go it alone after the wife dies in a car accident. A mixture of fiction with sci-fi references and outer space subject matter. Also an intriguing neuro-element to the story line. Easy read and cranked through this in about a week. Not a storybook ending, which I appreciated, and wasn’t left open-ended either. Felt very on-the-nose in terms of “fictional” references to climate change, an a-hole president, political partisanship, etc. so I don’t know how this will hold up over time – not sure Powers cares as he obviously has strong (negative) feelings about the times we are living in, circa 2020+. Enjoyed this book, even if a touch trite at times, way more than the Overstory that I failed to appreciate despite really wanting to.
