Blood Meridian

A slog. Frequent use of archaic terminology. Intermittent untranslated Spanish dialogue that sometimes exceeded my high school Spanish skill level. Lack of attribution and punctuation. The natural world was by far, and likely on purpose, the most defined character. Other character development was weak. Ending was ambiguous and its meaning debated online. A Quentin Tarantino-esque violence permeates the story from start to finish. Overall there was an intriguing quality to the book, but I wasn’t prepared for how inaccessible it would be after reading McCarthy’s The Road.
