Turn the Ship Around!

Leadership book with the core theme of empowering all employees, but the process the author suggests is more “intelligent” than traditional methods. The author’s experience is commanding Naval submarines, so that was the background and context. He didn’t get too into the weeds with the military talk, although at times it was borderline. The book is a blend of his personal account and part instructional manual if that instruction was coming from a business consultant. In general, I like the premise and it was easy to get through. I would have liked more examples of when his process failed him and why. It also isn’t super easy to translate his work environment and situations to my own. Would I recommend? If someone was in the market for a leadership book, yes. As a general read for learning and understanding organizational leadership, maybe.
