Lightning Rods

Helen DeWitt, 273 pages

Creatively conceived and skillfully written. A bizarre premise about a loser salesman that converts his sexual game show fantasy into a new product/service that he sells to corporations looking to eliminate sexual harassment in the workplace. The author tells the story of the loser’s evolving and expanding new business that he’s based on a seemingly absurd product/service, dissecting the business from an inexhaustible number of perspectives through different characters and situations. Can’t say I loved the book, but admired it more for its uniqueness and execution. A worthy read just for those two reasons alone.
