Competitive Strategy: Techniques for Analyzing Industries and Competitors
Michael E. Porter, 382 pages
This was a slog of a read. Dry, dense, full-on textbook style content. I hear it is mandatory fodder for most MBAs. It felt dated with heavy references to factory-driven businesses producing commodities. Was curious about the whole Porter’s 5 forces thing. It was all logical and meaningful, but mostly lacked applicability to my daily brand strategy efforts. Instead, it provided a fair amount of business context to keep in mind – with a few really insightful exceptions that I took notes on to implement moving forward. Not a beach read, that’s for sure.
