The life-changing magic of tidying up
Marie Kondo, 207 pages
Another blog post masquerading as a book. If you are single, live alone in a small place in Japan with no pets and deeply afflicted by OCD, this book will speak to you. A few highly interesting tips and nuggets are buried within repetitive messages, eccentric points of view (anthropomorphizing of items) and the author’s obsession with convincing us that “this is the right way to tidy, because I said so.” She seems like a good person, but so much of the book seemed manufactured in an attempt to come off as “magical woo-woo”. Maybe it’s a cultural barrier or maybe an act to build a brand around, I’m not sure. And the takeaways were light, so I don’t really care. Does this spark joy? is her mantra. The book really didn’t. Beyond that line, it is mostly forgettable.
