Snow Crash
Neal Stephenson, 559 pages
A major disappointment. The book is lauded for its early 90s invention and naming of the metaverse. While that may be a fascinating example of sci-fi accurately predicting reality, there’s little else to admire. The story is convoluted, trying to weave in Da Vinci code-esque ancient references that are too obtuse to be of interest. Storytelling felt mechanical. Final chapters just run out of steam with the protagonist – literally named protagonist – no where to be found in the final scenes. Pushed through this lengthy turd just so I could move on.
