The Art of Racing in the Rain

Garth Stein, 321 pages

This book’s unique hook: the story is told from the dog’s perspective. The author does an incredible job of explaining the world through the naiveté and loyalty of man’s best friend. Similar to Marley & Me in that the dog is only part of a larger story about a young couple that starts a family. The storyline gets a bit trite and the ending is way too Hollywood with everything wrapping up very nicely and in an expected way. Not groundbreaking fiction, but an extremely quick read that will resonate with dog lovers.
