Brave New World

Aldous Huxley, 263 pages

Tedious and never truly gains momentum, although better paced after the first 100 pages. Tackles the ideas of Utopia, human conditioning, hierarchy of societies, God and what it truly means to be satisfied and happy – wrapped in an old school sci-fi context. The underlying human struggle that runs throughout the piece has parallels to the new Battlestar Galactica TV series. Huxley’s lengthy descriptions of the futuristic world and society failed to paint a vivid picture. I got the gist, but I didn’t truly see what he wanted me to (I don’t think). I would have preferred more emphasis on character development and dialogue. Huxley’s issues with the world and life are quite obvious and this gives the book an overall heavy-handedness, zapping energy from its conclusion.
